Creating a sense
of surprise—that’s interior designer
Caroline Beaupère’s goal when designing
any space. “When I enter a room, I love
when my eye is caught by some unusual
element,” the 34-year-old French native
explains. “I do this through color or
materials—or both.” A mosaic tile back-
splash of birds ascending vines provides
the unexpected in this Brooklyn kitchen.
Beaupère paired it with sustainable
bamboo cabinetry and enameled lava
stone on the counters. A jolt of color in
the burgundy Viking hood and a trio of
pendants, which Beaupère likens to
bird-cages, make this heart of the home
a welcoming revelation.
